Magnetic GPS Trackers
Why Magnetic GPS Trackers are stopping thieves in their tracks!
The number of thefts of both vehicles and farming equipment is increasing at a rapid pace. These crimes have a huge impact on how owners protect their property. Using magnetic GPS trackers has many advantages over wired GPS trackers. First, they are wireless, so you can place them anywhere on your vehicle or equipment. Second, they are easy to install.
As the rate of auto thefts and tools thefts increases, vehicle owners are looking for new ways to protect their assets. Magnetic GPS trackers are a useful tool in this new era. They are far more effective than traditional GPS trackers. There are no wires at all, and these GPS trackers can be placed anywhere on a vehicle.
I Track Direct has a specific range of Magnetic GPS Trackers. This range is born out of years of experience and testing in the Tracking industry. All of our units are Waterproof to IP67 standards and have 35KG Pull magnets either build into the sleek design or upon the attaching case.
Take a look at the difference here between the Viper 6700 with its built in magnets and magnetic charge point compared to the I Track 3 GPS Tracker with Magnetic Case.
Take a typical example of a recent theft of a motorhome (July 2020). The vehicle was fitted with a GPS Tracker from its original purchase.
The owner contacted us for advice and as a result they purchased a VIPER 6700 Magnetic GPS Tracker. Unfortunately for the owner the motorhome was stolen recently and the thieves used a very high-powered GPS Blocker which is actually not as common as people think, However they are used and this creates a range around the blocker normally 1 to 2 meters where the signal is stopped.
Our client had placed his Viper 6700 Magnetic GPS Tracker under the motorhome. Not only was this away from the blocker but the thieves were not looking for it.
The client called us to inform us of the theft and that his factory installed Tracker (not ours) wasn't working. He used the LIVE Magnetic GPS Tracker to go and find his Motor home. When he arrived and its wasn't far from his home address he saw a black box attached to the vehicles battery.
This was actually a GPS Blocker. Parts of his dashboard had been removed and the tracker had been removed. What the thieves didn't expect was the client to have quickly placed his Magnetic Tracker underneath the vehicle.
Battery Life of Magnetic GPS Trackers
When you buy a magnetic vehicle tracker the first thing you need to do is test the battery life. This helps you determine if your tracker is suitable for your vehicle and if it will last long enough to meet your needs.
This is always a question and one that is never as simple as X years or X months. Why? Battery life is used as the vehicle moves and sends data to you. If a Vehicle doesn't move much in a week then battery life will be extended. If a vehicle is driving 100 miles a day then obviously it will use more power.
How to manage this?
We have different tracking modes which will help you with this. Historically GPS Tracking was simply ON or OFF. We have invested heavily in PCB development and we now would recommend using Magnetic GPS Trackers in PARK MODE.
This allows LIVE GPS Tracking while the vehicle is moving. When the vehicle stops the Magnetic GPS Tracker turns itself off, hence saving power. As the unit then senses motion it turns back on. This mode just simply amazing and should not be underestimated.
We often find competitors saying this will last 5 years. This is true BUT NOT NORMALLY LIVE TRACKING. What we mean but this is that you can use Echo MODE. This Mode tells the Tracker to report every X amount of hours. The unit will reports its position and then go into a deep sleep and you cannot communicate with the Tracker during this time and it will not live track.
Example:-
A Tracker is in ECO mode at 2 pm in the afternoon and it set at 6 hour reporting. At 3 pm the vehicle is stolen. This means the Tracker will not wake up until 8 pm and search for any new instructions from you.
If you send a command at 3 pm telling your Tracker to go into LIVE mode it will only see this at 8 pm and then go into LIVE Mode. This mode is ideal for Trailers and Horseboxes etc where you really do want the Tracker to last a long time and you don't generally look at it daily. You just have to accept you may need to wait for the next wake up to action the recovery. This is why PARK MODE is now so popular.
If you are looking for a Tracker which is capable of lasting years then our Viper range is where to start.
